In this method the artist is using soft materials to manipulate a three-dimensional form. Unlike carving, this method calls for quick hands. You are working with soft material; therefore, you need to manipulate quickly so the material doesn't harden too fast. The main tool used in this method is the artist's hands. An example of a soft material is clay.
This is a rocket sculpted from Crayola Model Magic.
The artist, my son, also created an animal from using this soft clay type material that takes over 24 hours to dry at room temperature. Once it dries, the material can be painted.
